Steps To Work
Who is it for?
Anyone over 18 years (16 or over if you are a lone parent) and claiming benefits
How does it work?
Steps to work has a wide choice of employment and support opportunities. Our focus is on helping those of you interested in working for yourselves to find your feet. The steps to Work Self Employment Option allows you to:
- Talk your business idea over with a professional business advisor
- Get training on the skills needed to operate a new business
- Prepare a business plan
- 'Test trade' for 6 months, while still retaining your entitlement to benefit
- During test trading you will receive £15.38 extra per week in addition to your benefits
A Business Advisor is there for the duration of the 'test trading' period and to signpost you to the next stage once the 'test trading' is completed.
Outcome
Participants experience running their own business, within the safety of retaining their benefit entitlement, and can make a better informed decision about self employment as a career option.
